WHAT DOES A CARPENTER DO?
A carpenter is a construction worker that generally builds, installs and repairs fixtures and structures made from wood and a range of other materials. They have the knowledge to cut, fasten, carve and design objects made of wood and other materials. They also use a wide range of different construction tools including drills and saws, and are generally very gifted at measuring precisely. Carpenters usually build houses and other structures and also design and build small projects such as decking and doors.
CARPENTERS TYPICALLY:
· Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment
· Assist with the delivery of other related municipal service
· Frame the building including doors and windows
· Designs, constructs, remodels, retrofits and repairs interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick.
· Designs, constructs, retrofits, and repairs cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, door and window frames, and other types of furniture. May install and repair modular furniture.
· Installs, repairs and maintains building roofs.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
To become a fully qualified carpenter, it is essential to complete a 4- year apprenticeship combined with vocational training to develop skills necessary to the trade. Through vocational training, carpenters will learn how to use hand tools, equipment, machines and materials in a safe and proper manner. You could also further your knowledge and skills within this trade by completing other courses.
